Thankful Thursday – Free Design – Week 3

Thank you so much for joining me on this journey – here we are with the week three project for the thankful Thursday project.  The new design has been released today, and will remain active for 2 weeks.

Each fortnight, I will offer a new free design based around thankfulness.  My plan is to create a quilt/lap rug and donate it to charity.

Today’s new design is thankful, grateful, blessed.

New Design – Octavia Owl

I am so pleased to bring you all my newest design set – Octavia Owl.

Octavia is a stunning Jacobean style Owl, sitting on a branch, and surrounded by beautiful Jacobean Flowers.

Octavia is the first time I am attempting releasing a “capsule” collection, with three designs making up this collection (although if you have a 5×7 hoop, there will be 9 colours).

I fell in love with a range of fabric by Tula Pink at the craft alive event last weekend, and just had to use this range with Octavia.

I was so excited about this design that I got out of bed at 4am this morning, and put the block together (approximately 30″ square).  I used my Electric Quilt Software to design the block, and it came together really well.

Octavia Owl would be a great design to use Iridescent Embroidery Film with.  The open work stitches will allow the film to show through, and highlight the beautiful colours used.

One of the best things about Octavia is that she is only $12.95 for download.  You can click HERE to download your copy of Octavia Owl.

If you love Octavia as much as I do, stitch her out, and show me what colour pallete you use.

Until next time, have a Stitchin’ week.  Julie

Thankful Quilt – My first Stitch out

Hello all – Emma and I have made the first block of our thankful quilt.

emma-framed

Emma doesn’t want to be “framed” for a crime she didn’t commit.

We have used the large file size, and are going for bright, cheerful colours.

One of the great outcomes from beginning this quilt is that we are now saying 3 things we are each thankful for over dinner each evening.

You can collect your free I’m thankful for today design by clicking on the link HERE.  The link will expire in one weeks time.

This Thursday, we will release the 2nd design – here is a sneak peak.

Test Sew Tuesday

I am having so much fun today, sewing with my friend Rita (actually, Rita is sewing and I am baking cupcakes, but it is all time spent together).

Today I am test sewing a new design, the Jacobean Owl.

This owl is stitched in 2, 3 or 6 parts (depending on your hoop size).  I have used a 200x300mm (8×12) hoop and am working in 3 hoopings.

1st hooping is the beautiful owl

The first hooping works on the owl, using an openwork style design, and plenty of beautiful stitches to add texture and interest.

Hooping 2 – left hand side of the owl flowers

Hooping two is the flowers found on the left hand side of the owl.

Hooping three will add the floral arrangement to the right hand side of the owl.

I have been in love with the fabrics created by Tula Pink, and managed to pick up a range of them at a craft show last weekend.

I chose my colours based on these fabrics, and cannot wait to begin putting this design into a block, and sharing it with you.

Until next time, have a Stitchin’ Day.  Julie.

Snakes & Ladders – A customers Quilt

I was so happy to get the below photos from Joyce Stapleton.  Joyce has made 5 Snakes & Ladders Quilts for family members.  Underneath the beautiful great-grandchildren is the snakes and ladders quilt.

In the Hoop Hand Warmer Instructions

animalfaces

These gorgeous hand warmers are quick to make, and unique enough that children will not loose them at school. (Although they may be taken because they are so cute).  I fill mine with rice and lavender, and heat in the microwave on a plate for 30 seconds before the kids go to school.

Requirements

Instructions:-

  1. Download the Face off designs with hand warmer at the end of the name onto your embroidery machine.
  2. Hoop together TearClean© stabiliser and a hoop size piece of plain fabric.
  3. Using the colour guide included with your FaceOff designs, stitch out the colours of the animal face, up to the second last colour (do not stitch the second last or last colour).

  4. Change your thread to regular sewing thread, and stitch out the second last colour, to show where to place the covering fabric.
  5. Lay your covering fabric, face down on top of the animal face design, ensuring that you have covered the outline stitch just created.
  6. Stitch out the last colour to stitch the backing fabric on.
  7. Remove the design from the hoop, and take away any excess stabiliser.
  8. Trim around the design (to approximately ¼”.
  9. Turn the design right side out, and press with a light iron.
  10. Place the funnel into the opening in the design, and feed in the rice and lavender mix.
